Themes of nature and the Orient mark all nine pieces of Don Li-Leger’s “Poppy Nine Patch.” Like all of Li-Leger’s calligraphy, collages and abstract works, “Poppy Nine Patch,” unifies organic shapes and improvised forms with a palette of rich, warm tones. Display it in separate sections, or hang as one complete artwork.
For three decades, acclaimed Canadian artist Don Li-Leger has woven ethereal tales of color, light and texture in a trademark style known as “Asian Fusion.” Influenced by Asian art and Eastern philosophy, Li-Leger richly layers his work with calligraphy, geometric elements and natural forms. Educated in plant ecology, Li-Leger painted British Columbia’s birds and animals until trips to the Orient and North American wildlife sanctuaries reshaped his artistic focus. Inspired by the flowers in his own garden, Li-Leger depicts the profound connection between nature and art.
Each image has been hand-transferred to canvas, museum-wrapped around wood stretcher bars, and finished with hand-painted black edges.
